GOCC announces 2024 study abroad trip to Peru

Glen Oaks Community College has announced that the 2024 study abroad group will travel to western South America to Peru.

“I’m excited to announce that I will be leading a group of students as well as members of the community to Peru for the 2024 Glen Oaks study abroad trip,” said Michael Northrop, professor of art. “We will explore famous historic sites, discover the rich heritage and diversity of different cultures, and experience the places I’ve studied with students in my classes. The study abroad trips offer students a mixture of fun and learning while they grow and mature as individuals and return home with a whole new worldview.”

The 10-day trip, offered through the student travel firm, Explorica, includes stops in Lima, Cuzco and Machu Pichu. The itinerary includes visits to the government palace and city hall in Lima; Cuzco Cathedral, Plaza de Armas, Korikancha Temple and a tour of the city while in Cuzco; and travel to the famous Machu Pichu, a 15th century Incan citadel. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in everything from visiting cathedrals and temples to jungle hikes and Peruvian cooking and pottery classes.

“I’ve chosen to travel with Explorica because of its exceptional safety record, their supportive service and the glowing reviews from other teachers in our community who travel with them. The company provides about everything we need.

The Glen Oaks study abroad program began in the 1990s. Since then, locations have included Mexico, France, England, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, China, Honduras, Italy, and more. Group sizes have ranged from a low of six to an average of 10 to 15 people. Community members are always invited to participate.

Persons who want to sign up or receive more information about the trip should contact Michael Northrop directly at mnorthrop@glenoaks.edu or (269) 816‐1966.
